so i dropped in on the Baker's the other night coming home from ash and maria's. they had alexander on. all i can say is that i never cared to see Colin's privates, but it's too late now...
the whole movie was so cut-up that there was no continuity and it was hard to know what was going on. men kissing other men aside, it has to be the worst movie i have ever seen (since supernova anyway!). so a word of warning, if you didn't go and see it at the movies (good move!) don't bother getting it out on DVD or even VDO. you've been warned...

i wanted to protect my ipod shuffle from the litres of sweat i would...sweat during my ride, so i cut a little piece of wetsuit material (off an old wetsuit i've been using for pieces for 8 years) and made a little sleave, which snuggly fits around the shuffle, with a hole at either end. it's great! it worked well, i could still feel the buttons and it was comfy under my bike shirt. i nammed it the "i-suit" as a joke.
after reading the devil and miss prim and the alchemist by Paulo Coelho, i would have said that he was one of my favourite authors. However, having just read by the river piedra i sat down and wept and veronica decides to die, which i must say were the worst 2 books i have ever read (mainly due to some pretty explicit descrptions i wish had never entered my mind), i dunno anymore... i don't think i'll bother getting anymore of his books unless someone strongly recommends one. was he totally drugged out when he wrote these or what? i must say i'm disapointed.

Things that make the blood boil…
So I was riding to work the other morning, in the sunshine, blue sky and crisp air. I ride up the bike path, through uni, over the rail bridge, through a suburb, across a busy road and into the street the school is on. On Wednesday, as I was riding over the bridge a very nice but very serious security guard stopped me to tell me that I wasn’t allowed to ride over the bridge…you say what now?!! I inform him that I have been for the last 2 years and he tells me that this has always been the law!
UN-BELIEVABLE!
It’s a fantastic bridge, 200m long and 3m wide, perfect for walkers and cyclists alike, cutting out a dangerous section of busy road. I’ve phoned and emailed to complain and will continue to do so. I will ride it everyday unless there are many walkers on it.
It’s ironic that they want us to get off and walk beside our bikes TAKING UP TWICE AS MUCH ROOM as we would if we were safely riding, streamline…

well here's an oldie from 2003...just found it on a cd a mate sent me. i think it's in bulgaria. we'd just been riding all day up and down and along the danube river, through about 27 tunnels... unreal! we stopped for a drink before looking for a place to camp, i was enjoying the setting sun, the view over the wind swept lake and a pepsi (which i never bought again, cause it was about twice the price of a beer!). i was atually quite cold in this photo, hence the thermal wearing! ahhhhhhhhh bike touring!

So I donned the big light and rode to Glenrock where I met up with some lads for a night ride. While I was waiting I had a go at some small doubles (jumps), almost coming off a few times, but quite happy, considering I was riding by head-light! We rode round some great tracks, down, down, down, and up. Terry took a massive stack off a burmed (birmed?) corner and slid on the gravel on his elbow and hip. Ouch. He got back on though with a huge gash on his bare arm and rode like there was no tomorrow! So fast, strong and loose. A great night! I got home 2 hours later, trashed!

great photo Adski! this photo was taken at the 3D slide show last week at uni. (read post for more details). you can see "the beek" in the middle at the back...just look for the reflection off the melon and the cheesy smile :)

Just paid $8 for the latest AIR album talkie walkie. It’s pretty sweet and nostalgic, I recommend it (especially if you liked talisman)!
So Kylie and Sam had us over last night for dinner as a bit of a “cousins” do (guilty parties were the ash and maria, jono and bec, mic and al and myself), it was incredible! We started off with some enchilatas (chicken) and burritos (beef…or at least mince…Kylie said mince was expensive at the moment…road kill??... Jono aka doorbell called it pigeon…it was quite tasty anyway), which were taaaaaasty! The “love” and “mambo” cordial mixed with lemonade was definitely a nice way to wash it down. When we were all full and satisfied Kylie whipped out some 5 star dessert: choc mud cake slices topped with cream and strawberries and/or flaky pastry with cream and blueberries. Un-believable!!! (you’d pay $10 for the dessert alone in a cafĂ©). Quite a lovely evening was had by all…thanks for the invite guys!!
Napoleon dynamite…

So the “pro” running teachers from school asked me if I wanted to come for a run with them on Sunday morning. I was well impressed and honoured that they’d ask me. I asked ‘how long for?’ they said ‘2 hours’… that sounded a bit long for me but they assured me it would be ok as they would run 6mins walk 1min and only walk the hills.
So I rode in at 5:45am (so early for a Sunday! I thought long and hard about ignoring the alarm and rolling back over in bed), met the boys at 6 and we started off. 2 hours and 21kms later (a half marathon!!!!!) we were back. I was feeling fine, only blisters on my toes. I got on da bike and rode to Church where I was song leading.
Fantastic! A great way to do longer runs and not be totally wrecked…though I must say today my legs are a little sore (I guess the game of soccer at lunch may be the culprit!)…

can you see a grasshopper? i thought i'd try some photo publishing on a post to see what happens...
this wee one was taken a few years ago on the "plateau d'emparis" in the french alps above the Camp des Cimes.
3D slide show...oh yeah baby!

Because of the overwhelming number of comments, emails, phone calls and mail I’ve been receiving entitled “what do you mean” (in regards to my post about “the house of technique”), I thought I’d explain myself a little.
Adam (adski) has recently put up a “woodie” in his shed (sort of steep short climbing wall made of ply, usually overhanging and usually less than 3 metres high). A few keen climbers and myself have been going there of a Wednesday night for some “bouldering” (originally this term came from climbing on boulders, for which no rope or protection, except a mat, are needed). Once we’ve warmed up on the vertical section, we move onto the overhanging section. There “problems” are worked on. Problems are a series of holds marked out by a certain colour or piece of tape. One usually starts on one’s bum and 4-6 moves later reaches the top. The “problem” is that some holds are small, others sloppy, others just out of reach and others face weird ways. I’ve been working on a “problem” for the past 3-5 weeks, which I did for the first time last night. I can now move onto a harder one…which is a lot harder (as it has been set by much better climbers than me!). I was only able to do the first 1 or 2 moves yesterday, as I was tired (and it’s pretty hard!). I hope this post will explain the previous one and will ease the panic of my numerous readers! J
Great time at the “house of technique” (adam’s shed) last night. The usual Wednesday bunch were there to crank it on some boulder problems. I finally got the one I’d been working on for the last 4 weeks…Boo-yah!
The only “problem” is that this was the easiest…now I’m onto the harder ones…ones on which I can only do the first and, at a push, second moves. I guess it’s a new goal!
Well I can’t say that I like waking up to the sound of bebebebeeep…bebebebeeep…bebebebeeep… in fact every morning I say to myself: only 3 more days til a sleep in…only 2 more days… BUT days like this morning when I get up, look out my open window and see the fog/mist in the valley with the hills in the distance sticking out like pieces of cake in custard, blue sky and sun shining, put the smile back on my face! How blessed I am for being alive and fit, here and now! Lovin’ it!

Some of life’s simple pleasures:
Home-cooked lasagna (by bec and jono), garlic bread, salad, red wine, good company of friends and family (stads’), cold and wet outside and “kind of blue” playing in the background… I must say that was a pretty nice Saturday evening! To top it off I walked to adam’s (in the rain) where we had a good time chattin about anything and everything, from movies to tools, firefox to aussie hip hop. After a couple of coldies, some fat chewing and half an episode of battlestar galactica I walked home, in heavier rain, and got to bed quite late…brilliant!

So I just gave some blood, nothing new or surprising there! Though it seems that these days needles are getting bigger or my skin is getting tougher… it seemed to “tickle” a little more today. Anyway. 9 minutes after I started, the machine started beeping, meaning I’d finished. I waited there until a lady with a nice accent came to free me from the blood sucking machine:
“uhm…nice accent you got there…
“
“OH…well then G’day mate…let’s shove…
Sorry, I got carried away…she said she was from norn iron, so I said where, and she said just outside Belfast, so I kept at it “which town”…”Lisburn”.
How random is that! in the middle of
As I was leavin I heard a nice piece of norn irish said to another customer: “here, take yer wee jumper off fer me please…” love it!!
In other things I hate (see the post below this one) the number 3 (at least today) would have to be:
3) being disconnected while chatting on msn to two great friends in norn iron about real interesting stuff…
GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
So I was relaxing this morning, reading “Boo-yah” entries from SGR (see link to another other blog called sandgateroad), when it was time to go. I saw the roll was almost empty but didn’t panic cause we had another 12 spare at hand. I started with the luxury stuff tom bought ages ago and when I finished I just reloaded the dispenser like a one would a shotgun, ready for action. As soon as I started to unroll I knew it wouldn’t be up to “scratch”… it’s the “safe” stuff, non-bleached, recycled… “now even softer” yeah right. That would imply that it was soft to start with… not only was it not soft, it was also weak!
I think that at the top of the “things I hate” column the top 2 would be
1) weak toilet paper
2) sandpaper soft toilet paper
I’ll be spending the extra buck next time…
