The best things in life are…
I was looking through the receipts in my wallet the other day and came across an Ikea one. No big deal, except this one was for 0 euro. If you have an Ikea store card in France, you can get a free coffee every weekday. I find it amazing that you are still allowed free things these days and that you even get a receipt for them!
Speaking of free things, I did the bread run this morning (meaning getting up extra early to drive to town and pick up the 15-40 baguettes from the bakery). I love doing it, as you get to feel the crisp morning air and see the amazing colours of the early morning alpine landscape. Today was different, as it was really stormy: the sky was a dark grey, almost black, but the light was golden. As I drove down the mountain I saw the horizontal sun hitting the peaks of the mountains nearby. The contrast between the fluo gold and pitch black was almost too rich to enjoy! I thought of the lotto “you have to be in it to win it” phrase and said to myself “you have to be there to see it”, realising that we so often take for granted the places around us and how much they can change at different times of the day, in different weather and in different circumstances. What I was experiencing was breathtaking, yet not more so than Seal Rocks on an early spring morning, Hillston skies on a clear summer night, Newcastle Harbour on a huge swell day or even Petersham main street on a Saturday morning…
