Semi-pro: don’t even bother!

It looked like it was going to be a funny one so a group of us went to see it. I am now so embarrassed that I suggested such filth!

While most of it was funny, a lot of it was plain dirty, awkward and disappointing. It was a complete waste of time, a complete waste of money and I feel so frustrated and embarrassed I ever suggested going to see it (with others) in the first place.

All I can add is that I doubt I’ll ever watch another movie with Will Ferrel in it again. I’ve used the analogy of the dog-poo muffins before (Thanks Dave Dunlop) and I’ll use it again: you wouldn’t eat around the bits of poo in a muffin, so why do it when watching a movie? In this case it was hard to differentiate between the poo and the muffin. GRRRRRRRRR! (frustrated noise).

Comments:
Alright bro. Haven't seen the movie and probably won't...not such a big fan of Will Ferrel's style of humour!

Not a fan of that muffin analogy either though!

Of course ‘poo muffins’ are less than desirable but I reckon most things in this life have at least a trace of poo (TV, movies, conversations with friends, places we go, our own thoughts and desires, sermons, God channel etc etc etc) making avoidance of such muffins impossible! If this is so, then the ability to recognise the poo and to ‘eat around it’ is a crucial skill to be encouraged, learned and cultivated! However I don’t even think this is enough. Surely we’re also to recognise that right alongside the poo is some tasty muffin! Is that not what Jesus did? He came to a poo filled world, to poo filled places and people (like me), somehow seeing the good all around the poo that was to be enjoyed and celebrated! Such an approach means, that alongside recognising things that are evil/dirty/sinful in TV, movies, other people, ourselves, sermons etc, we will also spot the glimpses of glory and feast on them!

i know this is the way you operate bro so i'm only taking issue with the analogy, not your approach to this movie. might it be better to describe semi-pro as a poo bar (as in dairy milk type of bar) rather than a poo muffin?

dude! it's great to see you're still thinking hard about issues!
thanks for the comment and more than that, thanks for such thoughts!
you're totally right in what you said and i totally agree that "keeping away from poo" in all areas of life (including what i do/say/think...) is impossible. i also loved the analogy of Jesus and Yes, hanging out with "dog poo muffins" in "dog poo muffin situations" was what he did, and boy did he do that well!
so in light of this, i'd say that semi-pro was indeed a "dog poo bar" or even just a "poo bar", so stay away from it. i would also suggest that it's worth sticking away from "poo bars" alltogether, unless they actually have some non-poo in them... but then again, there's another story.
anyhoo, thanks for challenging me on this and for making me think about stuff.
keep up the good work man.
catch ya some day for a good chat!
