Flush away the smoke.

Well on the recommendation of Mike Frost (at Stump this year), I got smoke out on DVD and watched it. I’d looked for it in different VDO stores but was unable to find it (He had said that it would be in the “bargain bin”, as it wasn’t really a popular blockbuster). I must say it has many great thoughts/lines/ideas in it. The story is simple and revolves around the interactions between a cigar store owner in Brooklyn, a writer whose wife has died a few years earlier, an adopted teenager and his real father and other people. It’s one of those movies that is raw and makes you think about certain issues in life. The most famous quote from it would be “slow down…slow down…you gotta slow down or you’ll miss it…” and that’s kinda what the movie is about: seemingly boring lives and friendships of boring people. But that’s the point…there is no such thing…

As a bit of a contrast we (mum, dad, Nome and myself) also went to see flushed away, which I must say was hilarious! It was great to see a good movie with my family, a fun, loving, light-hearted violence-free movie.  As it was G rated, the previews were all fun, light-hearted and G rated as well, which is always good. So if you like animation or want to see a great, funny family movie, go see it or get in out!

Comments:
Still haven't seen smoke, but read the screenplay after seeing the sequel, BLUE IN THE FACE. Very funny film shot while smoke was being made using the same actors improvising scenes and lines which gives it a very documentary feel.
Refreshingh and brillant.
Paul auster who wrote/co wrote the screenplays is also a best selling author.
