With rain all week, the track was always going to be
muddy…
Obviously this 8hr race being the local one (on my local tracks) I was always going to go in it and use my home advantage. The fact that I got trampled and rode over at the start (choosing to come off rather than take out some of my pro mates) didn’t help my first lap time, getting stuck in the single track behind about 30 riders all going the speed of my grand ma. The track was sloshy and wet, then became greasy and slippery and after 6 hours it was real nice to ride (with still some sloppy sections and greasy climbs). My replacement team mate Jacques had good time, almost coming in dead every lap. Overall I think we finished 14th out of about 40 teams in the competitive 2 man category, which I was real happy with. Due to the appalling conditions my gears stuffed up all day and I need a new drive train…ahhhhhh, mechanicals…
