The never ending story…
I guess it’s been a while since I’ve talked or complained about broken bike bits. Here’s a new one: last night, just before going for a night ride with Damian, I went down to the garage to tighten the cassette, which had become loose. I pulled the skewer out and with it came half an axle. “Oh, bum! I wonder how long that’s been broken for?” After a few texts saying I’d be late, I grabbed an old wheel, pulled the axle out and shoved it in place of the broken one (replacing the spilt bearings as I went). After a bit of adjusting (to make it fit and then to get the gears to change properly) I was on the road, racing to glenrock. I met up with Damian, who was having some hassles with his tubeless tyres, having to rip ‘em off, tear out all the latex and shove a tube in em. By 8:10pm we were in the dirt…finally!
