Well I don’t know if there’s anything in the world more painful…but if there is I don’t want to know about it! The following is not for the faint hearted…but read on!

I went to the dentist’s yesterday to get 2 wisdom teeth removed. I’ve said it before and I thought I’d never say it again, but I NEVER WANT TO EVER DO THAT AGAIN! Last time was in belshaft, while I was in norn iron and I said I’d get it done in hospital, totally knocked out next time…

It’s not so much the pain, though the deep needles in the gums and roots before hand were not enjoyable, it’s more the feeling, the taste, the sounds and the thoughts. You know what’s going on. You can see the instruments he picks up, you can hear metal grinding on teeth, the teeth gnashing against each other, teeth braking, roots giving way, you can feel the force he is putting down on your mouth and the amount of force he is using to pull, you can taste the blood trickling down your throat…I almost fainted due to my fast breathing, so I asked “I think I’m gonna faint, is that ok?” the dentist just told me to breathe slower… once the 2 scum bags were out (and my gums sewed up), he showed me the bloody teeth (complete with pieces of gum still on them) and bits of bone that “came out with them”, I was almost sick as he showed me and explained what he had just done…

So it’s no blowing my nose for 2 weeks (which means no riding!!!) due to the possibility of infection and no strenuous exercise. Bum. Of course once the physical pain is over, the wallet comes out…

Comments:
feeling for you mate.

i remember when you described your first wisdom tooth removal to me as we climbed Carrauntoohil. i've hated the idea of having mine removed ever since...

ahhh, climbing carrauntoohil... such great memories! thanks for reminding me about that Cahrlie, takes my mind off my teeth for a minute. advice: don't go the chair! :)

Well, this was my first visit to your blog and possibly my last!
After a consultation with my oral surgeon today, and the decision to have my four wisdom teeth removed in the chair, I come home, look at "Today Tom Wrote", and then link to the Birm, and FOR WHAT! A horror story that sounds like it could soon be mine!
I was very startled to read what you had written, especially as they were already thoughts that had run through my mind and have now been reinforced somewhat.
I'm still going to have my teeth removed in the chair, just for the sake of it, and then hey, we could compare notes.

yeah, well in hindsight, a week later, things are not as bad and my mouth has almost recovered. the stitches were (and are) a hassle, but apart from that it's ok. having talked to others about their experience, it's possible that it's actually better in the chair due to the quicker recovery time...if you can stand the pain and anguish...do it jas!

Well, I've been in, had my 4 wisdom teeth out, and apart from my face swelling up, the experience wasn't too bad at all. Had a pre-med an hour beforehand, which included sedatives and a painkiller, had the happy gas (and tried very hard not to giggle at a poster on the wall labelled "One Hundred Cats and a Mouse"...don't ask me why! it wasn't that funny). Once the surgeon put some kind of numbing paste on, he told me to breathe in whilst he put the needles in. I kept breathing out, but that was okay.
Couldn't feel anything after that, and it was over pretty quickly.
So, all in all it wasn't so bad.
Can't say I'd do it again...but then, I don't have to :o)

well congratulations, i'd say i'm jealous but it's not really something worth getting jealous about...i guess i'm happy for ya jas! i assume you'll be back on the bike tomorrow! take care :)
