The government gives grants to schools for cultural awareness experiences. As a result we took our Yr 7 kids to the Kitami Japanese Restaurant yesterday for a cooking demo and some Japanese food. YUM! The cooking demo was unreal, they cut up some raw finish the proper way and made enough sushi and sushi rolls (with 3 different kinds of raw fish, pickled ginger and wasabi) for all the kids and us (the teachers) to have a couple each. Yum! I had 3 different fish ones, a couple of rolls and heaps of pickled ginger (so nice!). Wasabi is the way to go! Soooooooooooooooo spicy it blows yer head off but it stops almost straight away. We then had some fried rice, fried noodles, chicken, beef, pork, calamari and prawns. Yum, yum, yum. Raw fish actually tastes good, as the chef said “it’s the skin that has that yucky fishy taste”.
