locusts R us!!!
so friday arvo 12 of us hopped in a van and drove for 10 hours to hillston (draw a line between newcastle and adelaide and it's a bout half way) for a 21st party. it was in a drought stricken place but had been raining and storming for a week, so it was red mud everywhere! we had to "abandon" the van and get picked up to go down the 4km driveway (which was like a wet rally track!). unreal, red mud flying everywhere in early morning darkness...
we got to bed at 5:30 on sat morn as the sun was getting up... we got up at 10 ish for some brekkie and muddy footy-come-wrestleling in da red goo... i sliced my foot open so i was out before the wrestle...(why me??).
had a great lunch, soccer and swim at da homestead then back to teh quarters (4kms away) for preparations for this masquerade formal dress party (kinda comical considering we were in da middle of no where and everything was dusty, muddy and red...).
we ate and danced til 12 (at which point i turned into a pumpkin) then had a great sleep and up for a BBQ brekkie and off to Church where the 12 members were overwhelmed by the 30+ visitors. it was great!
we hit the track at 12:15pm and drove through dirt and clouds of locusts (kinda like big grasshoppers), i've never seen anything like it!! locusts caked everywhere, from the radiator to the lights, windscreen (like small juice bombs), the windows, number plate, wipers... (they kinda smellt fishy when they cook on the motor)...
we got home at 10:36pm exhausted. what a fantastic trip! i wouldn't do it again this week-end, but i will return out there, love it!!
as i'm writing this i've just washed the van, refuelled it, returned it and paid for excess kms, all B4 7:30 am... shattered.
